âItâs like bloody Piccadilly Circus around here,â Danny grumbled on day fourteen. âThereâs a disabled bloke been knocking on the door for the last five minutes. Says he knows you. Shall I give him a twenty and tell him to fuck off? Or is his rate higher? You need to make a list, mate. Itâs confusing.â
Iâd like to see him try. âNo, flower. He can come up. Just make sure youâre shadowing him on the stairs. We donât want him to take a tumble, even if he is only visiting to nag.â
The rhythmic drag and thud of Tristan making his way upstairs ended with him eyeing me dubiously from the landing, out of breath.
âHello, Milo. Frankie mentioned you were running a creche.â He watched Danny disappear back down. âHe seems a nice lad. Made me a cup of tea and everything.â
With a sniff of disdain, Tristan advanced into the room, leaning his weight heavily on his sticks. âFive thousand miles, five yards, and fifteen stairs,â he commented. âYouâre testing the limits of our friendship. This room stinks by the way.â
âI know. Iâm wallowing. Havenât moved for two weeks.â
Cautiously, he shuffled towards the window and cracked it open. âTwo weeks is nothing. Queen Victoria kept it up for forty years after she lost her Prince Albert.â
âMine is still in fine fettle, thank you. If not a little⦠under-stimulated in recent months.â A waft of cool air drifted across the bed, and I groaned. âYouâve come to tell me to get up and face the world again, havenât you?â
âYep. Starting with getting your scrawny arse into the shower.â
Heâd have to try harder. Iâd jolly well stay here until I developed pressure sores. âJog on, flower.â
âIâm prepared to drag you into it.â
âYou and whose army?â I scoffed. âIâd like to see you attempt a firemanâs lift.â
âI donât need to, mate.â His evil little face lit up. âIâve recently made a new acquaintance. A guy who would love nothing more. Youâve got yourself an admirer, Milo.â
Bringing his fingers to his lips, he blew loudly. A burst eardrum would get me if pressure sores and leg clots didnât first.
A herd of elephants charged up the stairs. Well, a brawny fireman did, anyhow. An admirer? Tris was way off the mark.
Simon filled the doorway. In his uniform, too, all ripple-y and powerful. He threw me a wolfish grin, like he couldnât fucking wait to turf me out of my pit. Or do something physical with me, at any rate, from how his eyes licked across my scantily clad body. Really, Simon? Now? My dick stirred all on its own for the first time in weeks. My heart, however, remained an immoveable rock clasped in someone elseâs hands.
âLawyer boy. Are we doing this the hard way or the easy way?â Under his tight, navy short-sleeved tee, his muscles flexed enticingly. If his biceps' peaks grew any bigger, theyâd be covered in snow.
Sometimes, acknowledging defeat was a noble course of action. Maybe I had wallowed for long enough, after all.
